Serie A POTM September SBC: How to Unlock Donyell Malen in FC 27
By Alfie Carrington••3 min read
The latest Serie A POTM September has arrived in FC 27, and it features a surprising but well-deserved winner. Donyell Malen has taken the Italian top flight by storm since his arrival at Roma, and his incredible form throughout September has earned him this special Player of the Month item. This challenge introduces the new score-based mechanic, moving away from traditional squad building and chemistry to focus purely on the grading value of your club items. To secure this card, you will need to understand how to maximize your grading score efficiency while meeting the total requirement before the SBC expires on October 29th.
Understanding the Score-Based SBC Mechanic
Unlike the classic SBCs we have seen in previous years, the Donyell Malen challenge does not require a specific formation or chemistry links. Instead, it uses a total score requirement of 90,000. In this system, every player item in your club has a fixed grading score. You simply add players to the submission until their combined grading scores meet or exceed the target. For this specific challenge, any player with an OVR of 45 or higher is accepted, giving you massive flexibility in how you use your unwanted fodder to unlock this high-tier reward.

Real-Life Performance: Malen's Dominance in Serie A
Donyell Malen's win for the September POTM is backed by staggering statistics. Playing under Gian Piero Gasperini at Roma, the Dutchman has found a new level of clinical finishing. In just five league matches during September, Malen netted six goals, including a memorable hat-trick against Fiorentina and a crucial brace against Lecce. His explosive pace and instinct for goal have made him one of the most feared strikers in the league. Since joining from Aston Villa in January, he has transformed Roma's attack, helping them secure a third-place finish last season and continuing that momentum into this year's campaign.
Cost and Completion Strategy
Completing this SBC currently costs approximately 81600 on console and 87000 on PC. Because there are no chemistry requirements, the most efficient way to reach the 90,000 score is to identify players with the lowest "price per grading score" on the market. Instead of looking for high-rated players that might be inflated due to other SBCs, focus on bulk-buying items that offer the best value relative to their fixed grading. With a rewards value of 2100, the main focus is clearly the Malen item itself, which is expected to be a staple in Serie A squads for the coming weeks.
